Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 : Enterprise Portal Installaiton Error "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive System.Net.WebException"


If you ever encounter Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Enterprise Portal installation failure due to “System.Net.Sockets.SocketException” error exception then refer to the post solution section for problem resolution.

Error details from DynamicsSetupLog file.


An error occured while Setup was creating a new site.
The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.

System.Net.WebException
  at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebClientProtocol.GetWebResponse(WebRequest request)

Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

System.IO.IOException
   at System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size)

An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

System.Net.Sockets.SocketException
   at System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream.Read(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size)

API return status: Warning

Solution:

Install SQL Server 2005 Client Tools into Enterprise Portal server, you can refer to the following below instructions to install tools from SQL Server 2005 installation media disk or can download from Microsoft Download Center.

Installation from SQL Server Media Disk

1. Navigate to \Tools\Setup folder of your SQL Server installation media disk 1

2. Launch SqlRun_Tools.msi and install client tools
